- 1 ¾ cups all-purpose flour
- 1 ½ cups granulated sugar
- ¾ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1 cup brewed coffee (cooled)
- ½ cup vegetable oil
- 2 large eggs
- 1 tablespoon baking powder
- ½ teaspoon baking soda
- ¼ teaspoon salt
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- ½ cup semi-sweet chocolate chips (optional)
- Powdered sugar for dusting (optional)
Instructions
- Begin by preheating your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9×13-inch baking pan or two 9-inch round cake pans.
- In a mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt until well combined.
- In another bowl, combine the brewed coffee, vegetable oil, eggs, and vanilla extract. Whisk until smooth.
- Gradually pour the wet ingredients into the dry mixture, stirring gently until just combined. Avoid overmixing to keep the cake tender.
- If desired, fold in the semi-sweet chocolate chips for added richness.
- Transfer the batter into the prepared baking pan(s), spreading it evenly.
- Place in the preheated oven and bake for 40-45 minutes if using a round cake pan, or 30-35 minutes for a rectangular pan. Check doneness by inserting a toothpick into the center; it should come out clean.
- Remove from the oven and let the cake cool in the pan for about 20 minutes. Then, transfer it to a wire rack to cool completely.
- If desired, you can frost the cake with your favorite chocolate frosting or serve it plain with a sprinkle of powdered sugar.
- Once the cake is completely cool, slice it and prepare for serving.
